Dr. Galla’s research and scholarship focuses on Hawaiian language and Indigenous languages at the intersection of education, revitalization, digital technology, well-being, traditional and cultural practices, and policy and planning; and decolonizing and Indigenizing the academy to create pathways for Indigenous thinkers and scholars, and scholarship – locally, nationally, and globally.

In her role with CIS for the 2020/2021 school year, Dr. Galla taught FNEL 481, Heritage Resources in Endangered First Nations Language Revitalization, which examines the complementary and intersecting roles of libraries, archives, and museums in collections acquisition, development, curation, preservation, and access traditions pertaining to First Nations languages, to explore how each can contribute to endangered language and cultural heritage sustainability.
