Major & Minor Requirements

Major in First Nations and Indigenous Studies (FNIS)

Ensure that you’re fulfilling your requirements to obtain your Bachelor of Arts (BA) in First Nations and Indigenous Studies (FNIS).

FNIS majors also complete a research practicum near the end of their degree.


Minor in First Nations and Indigenous Studies (FNIS)

The minor in First Nations and Indigenous Studies (FNIS) is open to all UBC undergraduate students in degree programs that allow you to complete a minor in the Faculty of Arts.

To obtain an FNIS minor, you must complete a certain number of credits in select courses.


Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree requirements

BA requirements (2024 or later)

If you are entering the BA program in 2024/25 or later, you must complete a minimum of 120 credits to earn your degree including the Ways of Knowing breadth requirement.

BA requirements (Pre-2024)

If you began your BA program prior to the 2024/25 Winter Session, you must complete the pre-2024 degree requirements.
